What is the Endoscopic Nuss Surgery

Technological evolution has allowed the endoscopic technique performed in the treatment of pectus excavatum to become less invasive – Nuss Surgery.

Description of the procedure

It is a minimally invasive surgery with a small lateral incision where a customized prosthesis is introduced to correct the thoracic deformity.

During its procedure, a 2 cm incision is made in the lateral wall of the chest, in the axillary midline, following a line from the deepest point of the sternum depression. A personalized prosthesis is introduced through this small lateral incision, ordered from a specialized company that designs and manufactures the pectus excavatum correction plate for each patient according to their morphology.
Through a preoperative thoracic CT scan, the i3DExcavatum system is able to determine the best thoracic plane to insert the prosthesis and customize the size and morphology of the prosthesis most suitable for each patient.

The prosthesis customized by the i3DExcavatum system features a smooth curvature and fits perfectly into the patient’s deformity, which ensures an even distribution of the forces necessary to elevate the sternum above the ribs. These characteristics allow for less discomfort for the patient in the immediate postoperative period after surgery.

After the insertion of the prosthesis, in a minimally invasive way and under endoscopic vision, the incision is closed with an intradermal suture that presents excellent aesthetic results.

The duration of an endoscopic Nuss surgery is normally 60 minutes and patients are discharged after 2 to 3 days. Regarding work activity, after XX days the patient will be able to return to work. Normally, full mobility recovery is at the end of XX and moderate physical activity at XX.
