WHAT IS ROBOTIC UNIPORTAL LUNG CANCER SURGERY
Uniportal access for robotic thoracic surgery is a natural evolution of minimally invasive thoracic surgery (MITS). It was developed by surgeons who pioneered uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery (U-VATS) in all its aspects, following the same principles as a single incision using the latest robotic technology - the da Vinci XI platform.
Opting for this technique in the treatment of thoracic and pulmonary pathologies, particularly lung cancer, allows patients to recover more quickly and with less pain, resulting in a better quality of life.
Description of the procedure
Pure uniportal robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (U-RATS) is defined as robotic thoracic surgery performed through a single intercostal (IC) incision of 4 cm in length, without rib displacement, using the robotic camera, robotic dissection instruments and robotic clips.
The use of robotic dissection and clips through a single incision and rapid disengagement with easy emergent conversion when necessary (to U-VATS or to thoracotomy) are safety advantages over multiport RATS that cannot be overlooked, offering great comfort for the surgeon and rapid and smooth recovery for the patient.
The duration of mini invasive interauricolar communication surgery is around 100 minutes. Patients are discharged after 1 to 2 days in hospital.
They are expected to return to work after 7 days of rest. Moderate physical activity, on the other hand, can take place 2 weeks after surgery, in a regular situation and without any extraordinary occurrences.
