WHAT IS RESECTION OF PERICARDIAL CYSTS
The surgery is performed by thoracoscopy, using minimally invasive techniques and Single Port (VATS), an incision of just over 3cm made between the ribs.
Description of the procedure
At the end of the device, there is a micro camera capable of generating high-definition, 3D images, which helps the surgeon to have a broad view of the region. The tumor is resected and wrapped, thus preventing it from rupturing during removal. The patient may need a local drain for one or two days.
The muscles of the chest are preserved, which reduces post-operative pain. With less pain, the patient recovers more easily. The risk of infection is minimal and the patient can return home within 5 days of the procedure.
Free of the tumor, the patient can return to activities and lead a normal, full life.
Pericardial cyst resection surgery requires a hospital stay of up to 1 day, and in some cases can be discharged on the same day. The discharge period is 1 week.
