These injections block the action of the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine, which, after receiving impulses from one or more Sympathetic Nerve ganglia, stimulates the production of sweat by the sweat glands.
The duration of treatment is related to the region of the body where it was performed, but the average time is 6 to 8 months. The face and scalp regions require special care and injections must be administered by a specialized doctor, thus avoiding accidental injury to essential muscles or nerves.
Applications are superficial and are made in delimited areas, usually up to 2 cm in length. The injections are repeated several times until the site is completely covered.
To reduce any discomfort, a local anesthetic is used beforehand.
The results are not immediate. Gradually, the patient will notice a decrease in sweat production and in 5 days the benefits of the treatment will be felt in full. Over time, these injections will lose their action and new applications will be necessary.
