What is the Pericardial Cysts Resection

The surgery is performed by thoracoscopy, using minimally invasive techniques and Single Door (VATS), an incision of just over 3 cm made between the ribs.

Description of the procedure

At the end of the device, there is a micro camera capable of generating high-definition and 3D images, which helps the surgeon to have a broad view of the region. The tumor is resected and packaged, thus preventing it from breaking during removal. The patient may need a local drain for a day or two.

The chest musculature is preserved, which reduces postoperative pain. With less pain, the patient recovers more easily. The risk of infection is minimal and the return home can occur within 5 days after the procedure.

Free of the tumor, the patient can resume activities and have a normal and full life.

The duration of pericardial cyst resection surgery is normally 60 minutes. Patients are discharged after 0-1 day.
Regarding work activity, after 2 days the patient will be able to return to work. Normally, full mobility recovery is at the end of XX and moderate physical activity at XX.
